The island of Harnin, with its accompanying kingdom, is an enigma for all except the wisest of the shialen, for it is an island with no set position. The eldest shialen can remember a time when the island circled the whole continent of Caerlorn, and most cartographers simply place the island with the note “the Wandering Isle” beneath it, while most ships include a wizened old shiali sathara (spellcaster) to track the island should it be needed. Due to the fact that their own homeland wanders, the shiali of Harnin (and indeed, most shiali) have a vagabond lifestyle.
Since written records in Harnin did not begin until after the Shattering, little is known of its ancient history. Folklore maintains that it has existed since the dawn of time, wandering from place to place, and that is what drew the attention of Tranilaarl when she looked for a place to make a home for her children. It may be that the island is the only place that was not affected by the upheaval of the Shattering. The shialen of Harnin have mainained friendly relations with every country that borders the sea save one, for the pirates of Toragas have been a constant annoyance and danger to the floating island. Due to this friendly relationship with so many, Harnin has only a standing navy, which has shown itself to be the finest and most disciplined in the world.
Recent history, as formed through the Godswar, has moved the island multiple times until it has stayed more or less south of Arlyn for the past century and a half to avoid most of the fighting. Due to the strength and skill of its navy, it has acted as a southern guard for the Alliance of the Phoenix for that time, and skirmishers have traveled to the mainland to help with any other fighting.
